PHS CORPS programming is designed to enhance the skills of professionals in research, project management and related jobs. Suggestions for programs are generated largely by attendees. “Grants Management: Resolving the Puzzle”

~ Meredith and April will answer all of your questions about grants management, including how to read summary statements, understanding award documents, how to access and understand budget overviews, using PeopleSoft as a management tool, and who the players are in this process. Financial administrators from all PHS departments will also be available. If you have specific questions that you would like addressed, please email them in advance to Maria Parries (mparries@wfubmc.edu).

“IRB and Social Science Research”

~ Brian will specifically address IRB-related protocol submission and review processes with regard to social science and survey research. He will clarify the language used in the IRB documents and provide guidance for your next submission relative to the social sciences. “PHS in the Community: Project Management Perspectives”
This session spotlights several projects in the Division of Public Health Sciences that center on community-based research and/or community outreach:
~ Y. Montez Lane, Research Assistant, Department of Social Sciences & Health Policy will share her experience as a facilitator of the ECHO Council, a grassroots coalition focused on building social capital in Winston-Salem and NCCI (North Carolina Coalition Initiative) which is focused on providing training and technical assistance to build the capacity of 8 substance abuse prevention coalitions.
~ Jaimie Hunter, MPH, CHES, Research Associate, Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity and Department of Epidemiology & Prevention will discuss the happenings at the Maya Angelou Center with respect to research, community outreach, and student and faculty development.
~ Cindy Miller, AAS, Project Manager, Department of Social Sciences & Health Policy will share her experiences in community-based participatory research (CBPR). She will discuss research in HIV/AIDS and STD prevention, intervention and education with the immigrant Latino population in North Carolina.
