RESEARCH:
Dr. Liu is an Assistant Professor in Public Health Science/Epidemiology and Center for Public
Health Genomics with
a joint
appointment in Internal Medicine. Dr. Liu’s research interest is in studying risk factors for
cardiovascular
disease. Her past
work focused on inflammatory factors mediating the excess risk of cardiovascular disease among
patients with
end-stage renal
disease or diabetes. Genetic and biologic risk factors as well as innovative genetic
epidemiologic methods and
statistical
analysis are emphasized in the conduct of this research. Of particular interest is
pharmacogenetics. The ultimate
objective of
this research is to decrease the burden of cardiovascular disease through developing the
scientific basis for
behavioral and
pharmacologic interventions. In addition, methodologic tools and pathophysiologic insights are
sought which would
have broader
applications.
