EDUCATION:
B.A. (Mathematics), University of California, Los Angeles, 1979.
M.S. (Biostatistics), University of California, Los Angeles, 1980.
Ph.D. (Biostatistics), University of California, Los Angeles, 1983.

RESEARCH:
Dr. Morgan’s statistical research has been in the areas of survival analysis and the design and analysis of clinical trials. His research in survival analysis has covered areas such as adjustment for covariates, missing covariate data, time dependent covariates, and design of accrual and follow-up periods. In the area of clinical trial design, his research has dealt with group sequential designs, sample size and meta analysis. His most recent research has been in the area of missing data.

Dr. Morgan was a member and directed the Biostatistics Core for the Comprehensive Cancer Center from 1983-1990. Since 1988, he has been actively involved in clinical trials relating to aging and cardiovascular disease. He has served as Director of the Biostatistics Core facility for a NHLBI sponsored program project studying the effect of hormone replacement therapy on atherosclerosis and osteoperosis. In addition, he has served as senior statistician for an NIA sponsered multicenter program project involving randomized trials studying the effects of hormonal replacement therapy and pelvic muscle exercises on urinary incontinence. He was the PI of the Data Coordinating Center for a Hartford Foundation sponsored study of functional decline in hospitalized elderly (6 clinical sites). In addition, he is the PI of the Biostatistics Core for our WFUSM Claude E. Pepper Center on Aging which has conducted the Fitness and Arthritis in Seniors Trial (FAST) and is currently conducting the Arthritis Diet And Physical activity Trial (ADAPT). He is currently the PI of the Coordinating Center for the NHLBI sponsored multi-center Activity Counseling Trial (ACT) (3 clinical centers).
